چکیده

A unified maximum-likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) detection technique is proposed for TDMA digital cellular radio. In this technique, the probabilistic likelihood metrics are calculated from the joint conditional probabilities of all received sample sequences including complex-valued, oversampled, and/or multichannel diversity sequences provided that the sample statistics are independent. Based on the calculated metrics, the well-known Viterbi algorithm is used to decide on the maximum-likelihood sequence. The same unified approach can be used to analyze the probability of error for MLSE detection. As an application, a receiver employing the proposed detection technique is constructed and its performance is analyzed and simulated according to the North American digital cellular standard. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

HYBRID INTRA-CELL TDMA/INTER-CELL CDMA WITH INTER-CELL INTERFERENCE SUPPRESSION FOR WIRELESS NETWORK - Vehicular Technology Conference, 1993., 43rd IEEE

Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA) and Code-Division Multiple-Access (CDMA) have received much attention as potentially attractive multiple-access techniques for wireless networks, such as the future Personal Communications Network. The standard TDMA cellular network is designed so that physically adjacent cells are assigned different frequency bands, or channels, in order to reduce inter-cel...

A simple polarization-recovery algorithm for dual-polarized cellular mobile-radio systems in time-variant faded environments

Dual-polarized signaling constitutes an effective frequency-reuse technique to enhance the cell capacity in cellular mobile-radio systems. In the present paper, we present a new cross-polarization interference canceler (XPIC) which accomplishes the polarization-recovery task in time-division multiple-access (TDMA)based cellular radio systems. The main new attractive feature of the proposed XPIC...

Analysis and design of a frequency-hopped spread-spectrum transceiver for wireless personal communications

Personal Communications Services (PCS) require low-power radio technologies. One such transceiver architecture employing frequency-hopped spread-spectrum techniques is presented. System features such as antenna diversity with equal-gain combining and sequential hop combining are incorporated into the transceiver design to achieve robust wireless digital data transmission over fading channels. A...

Multiple-training Bi-directional Adaptive Equalizers for Tdma Digital Cellular Systems

In this paper, two popular adaptive equalization methods, fractionally spaced decision feedback equalization (FSDFE) and maximum-likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE), are investigated for the design of digital mobile receivers for the IS-54 specifications of the NADC* system. A bi-directional equalization technique is incorporated and a multiple training LMS (MT-LMS) algorithm is used as the a...

On the radio capacity of TDMA and CDMA for broadband wireless packet communications

Studies of the capacity of cellular systems, stated in terms of the admissible number of remote users, have generally been limited to voice telephony. In this paper, we address the problem of comparing the interference-limited performance of CDMA and TDMA systems in a packet switched environment. The objective is to determine whether the capacity advantages claimed for circuit-switched CDMA sti...
